Waldorf Cambridge is a growing, non-selective, co-educational independent school and is part of the Waldorf UK.
We provide a dynamic and progressive education for children aged 2 to 16 years. Situated on a single site, located on the outskirts of Cambridge in the delightful village of Fulbourn, we welcome children from all over Cambridgeshire and beyond.
We strive to give children the gift of an education that will nourish the whole life of the child. To this end, the academic, social, moral, and spiritual growth of every child is held as a central objective of our education. Children’s capacities and personal abilities are helped to unfold by providing them with a rich and carefully planned curriculum that enhances their own natural developmental growth.

Why Do Waldorf Teachers Shake Hands with Their Students? In Waldorf schools, the morning handshake and afternoon farewell are not simple formalities they are meaningful moments of connection. When a child shakes hands with their teacher in the morning, it is a true meeting: I see you. You matter. In just a few seconds, the teacher senses how the child is arriving tired, joyful, unsettled, or calm and can respond with the attention and care needed that day. The goodbye is just as important. Saying a child's name and offering a warm farewell closes the day with recognition and dignity: I noticed you. Thank you for today. I look forward to seeing you again. In today's fast-paced world, these simple gestures anchor children in presence, trust, and human connection reminding us that education begins with relationship. #waldorfcambridge #waldorfuk #waldorfschool #waldorfeducation #handshake #smartphonefreechildhood

The Living Blackboard in Waldorf Education In Waldorf schools, the blackboard is far more than a place for notes it becomes a living part of each main lesson block. At the beginning of a new block, the teacher prepares the board with care, creating a visual gateway into the subject. These drawings help set the mood, spark curiosity, and awaken imagination. They often remain in the classroom throughout the block, offering children a place to rest their eyes during storytelling, to contemplate an idea, and to quietly absorb what they are learning. Blackboard drawings are not created to display a teacher's skill, but to inspire. They are kept at a level that children feel they, too, could strive toward. In a world where many classrooms have replaced chalkboards with screens for speed and efficiency, the time a teacher invests in creating something beautiful by hand becomes a powerful gift one of presence, intention, and reverence for learning. #waldorfcambridge #waldorfuk #waldorfcurriculum #waldorfschool #waldorfblackboard #blackboardrawing

A Smartphone-Free School Environment At our school, we follow the Waldorf tradition of creating a smartphone-free environment, and we do not use computers in the Lower and Middle School years. We believe childhood is a time for developing imagination, focus, movement, creativity, and real human connection. By protecting this space from digital distraction, we allow children to engage deeply with their learning, their peers, and the world around them. Technology has its place but in these formative years, we prioritise hands-on experiences, artistic work, outdoor play, and meaningful relationships. Have you seen the recent Guardian article by Dr Rangan Chatterjee on screen time and mental health? The well-known GP, author and podcaster describes the failure to regulate big tech as "failing a generation of children" and calls screen overuse "the most urgent public health issue." He even advocates banning screen-based homework and delaying social media access until 18. It's an important conversation and one that deeply resonates with our educational approach.
